I took these photos over the weekend of blind Sophie trying to figure out how to get through the railings on the ramp so she could get back to the house. A year?ago I had posted photos of Aurora climbing through the railings, but so far she’s the only one to consistently do it. The others know Aurora does this, they just can’t quite figure out how. And, when you’re a short-legged, long-haired Dachshund standing in deep snow, the physics are clearly stacked against success. Being blind doesn’t help either. But give this girl?credit for trying!
(Just to recap: We close the gates to the ramps to make sure the dogs do their business out in the yard, not in front of the door to the house. When it’s cold and snowy like this, all they want to do is return’to the house before doing anything, and if we let them scamper back up the ramps right after putting them out, we’d end up with messes by the front door. Experience is a wonderful teacher. Hence the ramp railings and gates.)
Here she is, almost — but not quite — making it:
Oh my goodness! Poor Sophie has soooooo much snow in her hair. I bet she dried out in front of the wood stove when she finally got into the house. I’m assuming there is a shoveled area at the bottom of the ramp for them to do their business. It’s hard to believe she would venture into the unshoveled area just to try to get back up the ramp.
Yes, there is a lot of ground shoveled out for them.
Oh my goodness–burrrrr! What a cutie!
Like her name, Aurora is indeed a phenomenon! And goddess!!
Oh, she’s determined! I’ll think she’ll make it one of these days.
Persevering lass!
oh poor Baby. She needs to be scooped up, rubbed down with a nice warm towel, and put by the fire…. with a fresh, homemade dog biscuit. AND THEN… given a little doggy massage and a ton of kisses….!
Sophie seems to have a “can do” attitude, I wouldn’t be surprised if she figured out how to crawl through that fence. She’s such a pretty little girl!!
She’s a beauty. Did she make it? Is this a continuing saga?
Nope, she didn’t make it — legs too short! We scooped her up.
