She’s A Doll

Stella on fleece

Just a quick update on blind Stella, who came to us back in May from Louisiana. What an absolute joy she is! We’ve come to adore her, and we simply can’t understand how anyone could have simply turned her into a shelter and walked away. She is so loving and affectionate and, as we?discovered, quite energetic despite her age. In fact, she likes nothing more than to roughhouse. That’s right, this gray old lady likes to wrestle and climb all over me. It will start with me loving her up, and pretty soon she’s getting mouthy and begins pushing at me with her face, pawing at me, then trying to climb on top of me. She has a big, happy smile the entire time.

I also learned she likes a good game of tug-of-war. I was folding laundry a few weeks ago in the laundry room when she walked in. I had a towel I was starting to fold up, most of it still hanging down from my hands, and?Stella walked into it with her face. Realizing what it was, she instantly grabbed the towel?with her mouth and the tug of war was on. When I finally pulled the towel away, Stella?decided that she wasn’t quite finished with the game — she proceeded to gently grab my pant leg and began’tugging on me instead!

She also likes picking up the occasional toy and giving it a good thrashing:

That’s our living room around mid-day a couple of weeks ago, and you can see how quickly the bedding becomes disheveled in just a few hours. No matter how we lay it out, the dogs think there’s a better way to arrange it.

Stella’s just had the?first stage of her heartworm treatment?at Peak, so she’s on a “reduced activity” schedule now — no roughhousing, no tug-of-wars, just quiet time. She’ll get the second and third stages of the treatment in a month. Once we’re past all this, she can get back to the antics she enjoys so much.

She’s a beautiful dog. I can’t believe either than anyone could give her up. It’s nice to see that she still likes to play. I’ll be glad when she’s finished her treatment and can get back to it!

She sounds like a lot of fun. I think for dogs, bedding is just another toy. It seldom stays where I think it belongs, and I have to go looking for it at bedtime. I bet Stella will be even more energetic after she’s rid of the heartworms.

What a sweet dog! I love it that she reminds you she isn’t ready to be totally retired and that she wants fun play times. Give her some lovin’ for me next time you wrestle.

I have an old grey-faced lady too and I think of Stella every time I look at her. I can’t imagine not having Molly here in these twilight years and it just floors me that someone could give up a sweet old lady like Stella.

So glad she has you all!

She is beautiful. I have 6 animals currently adopted from shelters and nothing pleases me more than seeing them sleep in peace and play with enthusiasm. I’m glad Stella now has a good life.
