Back in February I had a post about the dogs using a trail they’d made through the deep snow to the’spruce tree at the other end of the front yard. I’d mentioned how even the more adventuresome blind dogs liked following this trail out to the tree and back again. Well, a few weeks ago, having made it to the spruce, Aurora missed the turn into the “trailhead” coming back, and decided to plow ahead, so to speak. The snow was deep, but she forged ahead, and you can tell she had a pretty good sense of direction. Pretty quickly she intersected with the main trail and was back on the porch. Aurora is now functionally blind in that one eye — she can only see shapes and shadows these days — but she is still intrepid.
We don’t have that much snow now, but we still have way too much for this time of year! The calendar says spring, but outside it says “winter.”
Also from the recent photo archives, here is Darla looking utterly decadent a couple of weeks ago — this was before she got her own recliner:
She was probably expecting someone, i.e. me, to come along and?pull the blanket back up and tuck it in. Yes, I did, after I took the photo.
Aurora does great, even with her blindness. It is so amazing how their ‘disabilities’ don’t disable them when they make up their minds! And that’s just Darla, being Darla…..:)
You go, Aurora!!! Blaze those trails! She reminds me so much of my daughter’s deceased Cocker/Golden Retriever mix! She was a wonderful dog.
Amazing how she kept plowing on!!! Nothing keeps these dogs down when they know they have a wonderful home to get warm again. Ahhhh, Darla the price she pays to be so cute!!! Picture of her while waiting.
Hm, yes, a study in Energetic versus Lazy. 🙂 I’m getting sleepy just looking at Darla. Aurora looks like a good trail-breaker. She seems to be carving out quite a nice clear path.
This princess needs her own chair and thank goodness she now has one! ; ))
Baron would NOT do this! He would sit out in the snow and wait for me to come get him. And I would go get him, snow boots or no boots! Maybe he has me trained… 😉
