Wilbur on bed

Alayne took that photo of little Wilbur this morning on a bed in the living room. He’s really old now — what age precisely we don’t know — but he was already a senior when he came to us back in 2012. Wilbur is mostly blind in that one eye now, deaf, and rickety. Because he has no teeth, that ridiculously long tongue of his still hangs out of his mouth, as you can see in the photo. He has that elderly, stiff gait when he walks, but bless his little heart, he manages to get around okay (though we carry him in and out). He still has a great appetite, and yammers for his food?whenever he thinks we’re within four hours of mealtime. His potty habits aren’t the best anymore, which is why seeing him on a fresh, clean bed that size brings to mind the?large pile of laundry to do later. Oh, well.

Here’s a recent shot from this past weekend of Tanner sharing a bed with the tyke. Please note the perfect matching colors of these two boys:

He’s still the sweetest little guy. And as long as he keeps eating, that’s a good thing. Little dogs can live to be 20. But not knowing what his life was like before he came to the Farm and how much care he received may affect that. But he certainly seems happy and if napping is his favorite hobby, so be it. How can you not simply love a face like that??

Hoping that he enjoys his naps and his food and his friends. That else could matter anyway?! Such a sweet boy.

What a sweetie, love those ears. He and Tanner look so cute together. At one time I had a designated laundry basket for peed-on bedding, so I know what you’re talking about, but these old guys are so wonderful that it’s all worth it.

Wilbur has always had a special place in my heart for some reason. He could not have a better retirement home if he were as rich as Lassie! <3

    Have you considered doggy diapers?

Janet, yes, and we’ve posted photos of Wilbur in doggy diapers before. But sometimes they can result in more of a mess. I’ll leave it at that to avoid getting too detailed. 🙂
